The driver accused of killing a Highland High School girl in a 2008 collision has been sentenced to 14 years in prison with credit for time served, and four years of probation - the maximum sentence allowed under terms of his plea agreement.

Manuel Contreras-Galdean, 33, signed an agreement last year in which he pleaded guilty to one count each of manslaughter and aggravated assault for the Nov. 15, 2008, collision that led to the death of Kelly Tracy, 16, of Mesa, and injured her brother, Matthew Tracy, then 17, as he was driving them to Highland High, Maricopa County Superior Court records show.

Mesa police said Contreras-Galdean was driving with a blood-alcohol content above 0.19 percent - two-and-a-half times the legal limit - and had been on cocaine.

Judge Richard Trujillo listened quietly Friday, as the Tracy family and their friends remembered Kelly as a spiritual, loving girl who dreamed of helping other people understand their faith through music, prayer and scripture.
